Welcoming 3D/4D Scanning room

How to Prepare for Your 3D and 4D Ultrasound

3D or 4D ultrasound is a wonderful opportunity to get a sneak peek of your baby's features before they arrive.

This non-invasive scan doesn't even require a hospital visit; instead, you can visit a comfortable independent facility where you can relax with your spouse or other loved ones as you take a look at your growing baby.

While this baby scan is easy and relaxing, there are a few things you'll want to do to prepare for your visit. Keep reading to learn more.

Arrive Early

As with any visit to a doctor, you should plan to arrive about 5 minutes early for your ultrasound scan.

This will give you a chance to get checked in and relax before your appointment.

Hydrate

Staying hydrated is important during pregnancy. And if you want a clear image of your baby for your ultrasound pictures, this is even more important.

Being hydrated means having a full bladder, which will move your bowels out of the way and give your sonographer a clearer view of your uterus and your growing baby.

Eat Before Your Visit

You might not be able to eat before a diagnostic ultrasound. But it's a good idea to eat a light lunch or snack ahead of your 3D ultrasound.

Eating something light ahead of your appointment will help to "wake up" your baby and make them more active during your scan. A glass of juice can also help with this. Opt for fruit juice over soda to avoid caffeine.

Wear Loose Clothing

You'll need to move your clothing out of the way during your 4D ultrasound. When preparing for an ultrasound, it's a good idea to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.

Besides making it easier to move your clothes out of the way, this will also help you stay comfortable during your appointment. After all, you'll want to enjoy the view of your baby rather than worrying about your clothing. You will need to sit for anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes in a reclined position.

Try on your outfit ahead of your visit to make sure that it will be comfortable in that position.

Know What to Expect

It's common to be nervous about any new procedure or appointment. While there's nothing about an ultrasound that should give you jitters if you tend to get nervous about new things, knowing what to expect of your appointment ahead of time can help to ease your nerves.

Preparing for Your 3D and 4D Ultrasound

Perhaps the best ultrasound preparation tip you can put to use is to choose the right facility. Anyone can perform a 3D or 4D ultrasound. But if you want to get the best picture, as well as a relaxing and professional experience, it's best to visit an experienced diagnostic medical sonographer.
